A view of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
The crown jewel of San Francisco: The Golden Gate Bridge.

If the best way to know where to eat in a city is to talk to a local, I can do you one better: many of these recommendations come directly from a local chef! My talented sister-in-law is the CDC (that’s chef de cuisine) at one of SF’s most beloved restaurants, and she shows Ben and me the most delicious time whenever we visit.

I’ve had the opportunity to play like a tourist and a local many times since my first visit to San Francisco in 2016. Even if you only have a few days, you can see iconic sites around the city—and eat a few fabulous meals in between.

San Francisco Restaurants

From fancy dinners, to feet-in-the-sand seafood spots, to stellar cultural cuisine, San Francisco has something for everyone.

The pastas at Flour + Water are some of the best you will ever taste.

Our Favorite Dinners

Flour + Water. This Mission District gem delivers elevated, seasonal Italian fare in a warm, lively setting. The pasta is hand-rolled and exquisite. For the full experience, splurge on the rotating tasting menu.

Penny Roma. Penny Roma feels like a cozy dinner party in the best way. Tucked in a quiet alley, it serves rustic Italian dishes with serious soul and modern twists. Silky pastas, stuffed angelotti I still dream of, bright crudos, and a vibe that says “stay for one more glass.”
